HFS to Stop Paper Copy Notices to Hospitals – November 18, 2009
As of Feb. 1, 2010, the Dept. of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will
no longer mail paper copies of notices and bulletins to hospitals, pharmacies,
ambulatory surgical treatment centers, long-term care and other specific
providers.
HFS will use email notification to advise providers when notices and
bulletins are posted to their Web site. If your hospital staff members are not
registered for email notification, they should register immediately. We
encourage you to have multiple staff register for the email notification. If you
are already registered for email notification, there is nothing you need to do.

Attachment C Utilization Review Changes – November 30, 2009
The Department of Healthcare and Family Services issued a notice regarding
Attachment C Utilization Review Changes. Effective with admissions on or after
January 1, 2010, additional diagnosis codes are subject to mandatory review. In
addition, effective October 1, 2009, ICD-9-CM code 453.8 has been deleted and
replaced with new 5th digit extensions. Some codes that were already
reviewable, the description was changed effective October 1, 2009. Please see
the notice for specific ICD-9-CM codes now subject to mandatory review.
Changes to Safety Training Certification Programs – December 9, 2009
HFS issued a regarding changes to safety training certification programs for
Medicar and Service Car Providers. The
notice identifies the programs certified
to conduct safety training for individuals seeking a certificate.
Hospital Credit Balances – December 18, 2009
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services issued this
notice
to ensure hospital providers are monitoring credit balances and submitting
adjustments or payments to HFS related to these credit balances.
Healthcare and Family Services 2010 Outreach Tour Sessions
The Illinois Dept. of Healthcare and Family Services will hold eight 2010
Outreach Tour Sessions from Jan. 22 through March 9 at hospitals throughout the
Chicagoland area. Policy updates will be available on FamilyCare; All Kids, All
Kids and FamilyCare Rebate; Moms & Babies; Illinois Healthy Women; Illinois
Breast & Cervical Cancer Program; Illinois Warrior Assistance Program; Veterans
Care; Health Benefits for Workers with Disabilities; and Child Support. The full
