Illinois Hospitals' Haitian Response

CGH Medical Center

  • Staff from CGH Medical Center, Sterling, are contributing to the Rotary Shelterbox through the Sterling Noon Rotary Club. Shelterbox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide.

Children's Memorial Hospital

  • A mission group including staff from Children's Memorial Hospital, Chicago, was in Haiti when the quake struck and remained a few days longer to provide assistance.

Genesis Health System

  • Genesis Health System, which includes Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, in Silvis, held prayer services at all four of its hospitals on Jan. 15 and has pledged $20,000 to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAid) for earthquake relief efforts.

Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach

Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital

  • The Weiss Initiative Supplying Hope (W.I.S.H.), of Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago, usually supports local organizations, but chose to make donations to the American Red Cross for use in Haitian relief efforts.

MetroSouth Medical Center

  • MetroSouth Medical Center, Blue Island, held a campaign to raise donations for The Haitian Health Project, a humanitarian effort begun shortly before the earthquake struck by a MetroSouth family practice physician. Dr. Yves-Mario Piverger, who lived in Haiti for eight years, is focused on efforts to replace durable medical equipment such as ultrasound and electrocardiogram machines that were destroyed in the disaster. He is currently caring for the injured in Haiti.

OSF Healthcare System

Provena Health

  • Provena Health is supporting relief efforts at the system level and through their hospitals. Multiple fundraising initiatives are taking place and donations of supplies, medication and other needs have been sent to Haiti, along with medical volunteers from Provena St. Mary's Hospital, Kankakee.

Roseland Community Hospital

  • Physicians from Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago hosted a session with the director of IDPH and other local hospitals to make recommendations for potential assistance in Haiti.

SwedishAmerican Health System

  • SwedishAmerican Health System, Rockford, is involved in a variety of initiatives to provide food, medical supplies and personnel. Kindergarten children in the system's Child Care Center have selected a Haitian orphanage to sponsor and are collecting money and various items.

Trinity Regional Health System

  • Trinity Regional Health System, Rock Island, and other affiliates of Iowa Health System have donated more than $30,000 in medical supplies, surgical scrubs, bottled water and other goods to the Haitian relief efforts.

University of Chicago Medical Center

  • Medical professionals in trauma-related fields from the University of Chicago Medical Center are in Haiti in partnership with a non-governmental organization based in the region. More than 100 professionals have volunteered and will continue to provide coverage on a rotating basis. The medical center also will match gifts by medical center and university employees, faculty and students to the Haiti disaster relief fund up to a total of $250,000.
